January 17, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
At our January Community Meeting, join GreenTown Los Altos for a sure to be interesting evening, a screening of the documentary film, “STRAWS”. Directed by Linda Booker (30 minutes), it will be followed by a discussion with distinguished panelists at the forefront of plastic pollution waste reduction.
An estimated 500 million straws are used each day in the U.S., then tossed. The vast majority of straws aren’t recycled so they end up in landfills, litter streets and add to the estimated 85 metric tons of plastic debris that wind up in the oceans annually. Ocean conservancy ranks plastic straws as the fifth most common item found on beaches. This film leaves audiences with a clear understanding of the problems caused by plastic pollution and empowers individuals to be part of the solution.
