GreenTown Co-Op Helps Restaurants Go Compostable
Launched in April 2010, GreenTown Los Altos’ co-op is free and open to all restaurants, businesses, food service suppliers, organizations or individuals, in any city or location! All participants receive a 25% discount off the retail price of all World Centric compostable products.
The goal? Eliminate Styrofoam take-out containers in local restaurants. The results speak for themselves:
- By July, 2010, several restaurants joined the co-op: Brian’s Restaurant, Chef Chu’s, Maltby’s, Oregano’s, Rick’s Cafe, Spicy Leaves, Sumika on Central Plaze, Sumo Sushi Boat, & Tom’s Depot.
- Other cities expressed interest in promoting the Co-op as an alternative to doing a styrofoam ban.
TO JOIN:
Just complete this online New Member Application, and you will be contacted with the promotional code. You must use that code on all your orders to get the Co-op discount. It’s that simple!
TO ORDER:
- Use your promotional code when ordering online here. All ordering must be done online.
- There is a $250 minimum order size.
- Delivery is by 1) UPS, 2) truck delivery within the Bay Area for large orders, or 3) pick up at a warehouse in San Leandro, CA.
Switching to compostables now makes sense. Many jurisdictions are banning styrofoam and many cities’ waste contracts (such as Los Altos, which started September 2010) are including expanded compostables collection to help reduce waste in our landfills.
